Hey guys,
My mum was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer, that had spread to her liver and lungs.
We were told a few weeks ago, after a surgeon meeting, that they could not operate, as the cancer had spread too much.
We had an oncologist meeting today, and they confirmed they cannot give any palliative chemo/radiotherapy, as mum was too weak- she has ascites, and is generally weak.
When we tried to push the oncologist for treatment, he stated that my mum had the worst liver tumours, he has ever seen. ( She has multiple liver tumors, largest 14cm). I was very shocked with this, as this scares me so much. How can a 55 year old, active woman, who was doing 10k steps and working out every day, few months before, now have the 'worst' case, this oncologist had seen.
I was wondering what you think the best approach should be now. Family members have suggested that we opt for private treatment. But I'm hesitant to have false hope- ie/ if the oncologist come back again and say no treatment, we'll be equally as deflated. I'm just unsure what to do. But at the same time, if the oncologist does not agree with the NHS approach, it could also be life changing.
Has anyone on here had a private oncologist meeting? Were your results different from NHS? In terms of pricing, what are the estimate figures for this?
Any help is appreciated- thanks in advance!!
