Hi everyone,
My dad (60 years old) has recently been diagnosed with NSCLC Squamous lung cancer stage 3 (he quit smoking 18 years ago). His official staging is T2bN3M0. We're grateful it hasn't metasisied elsewhere in the body.
We met with the oncologist who's view was to cure my dads cancer - this was excellent news for all of us. We're absolutely certain our dad will be able to fight this. He is very fit and healthy and therefore the treatment will be more effective.
His treatment will be radiotherapy and chemotherapy for only 1 month which will be followed up by a scan after 13 weeks.
My post is really to help those in the same situation and to say that please do not google and assume everything you see online is correct. I was dead sure they wouldn't be able to do anything to cure my dad. I know treatment has not begun yet so cannot say but the oncologist was very confident. Yes lung cancer remains to be one of the highest in terms of mortality HOWEVER this is now rapidly changing. The advances in medicine and research within the last 10 years have been incredible and we are now hearing more people survive this disease.
I am of course still feeling apprehensive and anxious but still very much so positive.
I will keep you all posted but would love to hear your positive stories!
Annie
