Tamoxifen

Hi guys,

I was diagnosed with lobular carcinoma in situ last week and I'm now on tamoxifen for 5 years. I took my first one tonight. How long does it take for symptoms to start and what does everyone do to help alleviate them?

Thank you in advance.xx

    Hi Loopy,

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but am glad to hear that you have already started treatment. Have you been told what grade your cancer is?

Some people get side-effects, but others sail through their treatment without any problems. There are no hard and fast rules about when symptoms develop. It will depend upon what problems you may develop as to how you can alleviate them. Wait and see if you get any signs and, if you do, we can advise.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

Thank you for the reply. Lcis isn't classed as a cancer because it hasn't become invasive and may never do, but it's presence means I'm higher risk of developing a cancer in either breast. It's quite a rare thing to have and is undetectable on any screening. It's found by chance. But they recommended tamoxifen to lower the risk, I'm taking it for 5 years. Just sat here waiting for a flush or a mood swing! Xx

    Hi Loopy,

It is good news that your LCIS  is pre-cancerous and not cancer. Don't worry about side-effects until you  are aware of them - you may well be one of the lucky people who never get any.

I sincerely hope that you never do!

Please keep in touch. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
