what does this mean ?

I have just been discharged from emergency stoma surgery. I have a illostomy

My discharge letter says moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma T4 N1 M0

is this a terminal diagnosis? The surgeon has referred me for radiotherapy? He said this was palliative

  • Hi there ...

I think you need to get on to your  G P or oncology team, and ask them to explain your case and diagnosis, as you don't understand what is going on .... l think it's really bad they have left you like that ..

But you'll always find someone to chat to on here ... Chrissie x

    Hi Confusedly,

I fully agree with all that Chriss has said. You should have been assigned a specialist nurse and given her contact number. You should never have been left in the lurch like this. Most of us don't understand the medical terminology and need it explained in plain English. Don't be afraid to ask for this, as you are not the only person who doesn't know what is happening.

In future, don't be afraid to ask if you don't understand something. Unfortunately, many of us have to do this when doctors baffle us with medical terminology.

I hope that you find out soon. Please let us know how you get on.  Remember, that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I have yet to see a oncologist I was diagnosed at Christmas after abdominal ct chest ct full body pep ct scan and mri. At that point the MDT were saying I was not suitable for any surgery apart from either a stent or a stoma. That I wasn't suitable for chemo or radiotherapy either.
I pushed things with my surgeon and together we decided to try to biopsy my main tumour via stigoscopy and then this stoma operation now with a view to me having radiotherapy. This staging is from the 14cm stigmod junction tumour I have.
I also have a shadow on my lung which they are monitoring but not biopsies and a large cyst on my ovary which they feel is bowel spread again they are only offering radiotherapy. I am not a suitable candidate for surgery. I'm asking as curious as to the severity of the mass. I know that things my prognosis would be very different if not for my extremely poor lung function

    Hi Confusedly,

It sounds as if you've been through the mill already. I am so sorry to hear that you are not a suitable candidate for surgery or chemo. I am afraid that I am unable to answer your question about the severity of the mass, as I am not a doctor, just a breast cancer patient. I would advise you to contact your specialist nurse or GP to ask them about this, as I am sure that you are very keen to find out.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
