Wife diganosed with bowel cancer spread to liver

Hi my 35yr old wife has been diagnosed with Bowl Cancer which has spread to her liver. She is having a operation on Friday to remove the tumour. Then she has to have chemo. Doctors are throwing numbers at me like 1yr if chemo don't work 2yrs or longer if it does I am so confused.

  • Hello Thetoad,

sorry to read your post, its hard to take anything in when you are so distraught and struggling to come to terms withy the present, its like trying to board a bus travelling at the same speed as your running when it had a 50 metre start.,

l assume your wifes operation is for the tumour in the bowel, and that surgery is not possible for the spread to the liver, and they will use chemo to treat the liver.

l am survivor of the exact same but had surgery to bowel and liver 7 years ago,so have a little understanding of what your wife faces, but everyone is different.

l would say that its early days and things will become clearer as time progresses, the operation will allow eyes on the tumour and biopsies to be taken to assess the nature of the actual cancer, and it may be that the liver might be examined at the same time.Time will also allow an understanding of the response to the chemo.l realise that you want definitive answers asap, but the reality is that often this is not possible. With a long journey in front of you the best advice l can give pull back a notch or two and give time a chance to provide some clearer answers.

first things first,l hope your wifes operation is a success and things begin to look a little brighter post op,and that she copes with the chemo well,

                                                                                                                                                 David

  • Yes, they said they will do the operation on Friday to hopefully remove the tumour from the bowl. Then chemo. It's really hard to take it all in.
