First round of chemo- so scared

Hi

I have stage 2 ovarian cancer and start my first chemo tomorrow. 5 hours ( 3 x chemo drugs) and can't take any one with me. I am so apprehensive about what it will feel like having all those drugs pumped into me and I dread the side effects they have discussed with me. I know I am being overly dramatic but it's suddenly very real.  I have elected for the cold cap and hope that my body will tolerate the chemo well. Does anyone have any tips or advice for me??! Any shared experiences will really help me ( good or bad)

  • [@meetski]‍ , Hi Meetski, I am due my first chemo next week too. I have also elected for the cold cap too. Put ‘cold cap’ in the search bar at the top of the page, it will take you to previous chats on the subject, I got some great tips. Please don’t worry, you will find the most amazing people in that large room with you, lots of others having similar infusions, that will help you through it, many will have been there on previous occasions, they will chat to you. The staff are utterly amazing. If you can’t find the links get back to me. X

  • Hi, I remember it well, the anxiety, anticipation, worry, confusion etc all to be expected. After your all plugged in and flushed, out comes the real medicines. I worried about complications, if I would feel it racing around my body, I sat waiting for something to happen, nothing did, all the worry for nothing. But you'd be the odd-one out if you didn't worry, I was expecting it to be horrible and it wasn't, what a relief, not everyones the same though. Try not to build it up out of proportion with all you've seen and read (I'm looking at you Goggle!) might not be as bad as you expect. Keeping my fingers crossed you have good one!!!

    Regards.

  • Hi

Hope your feeling ok (ish) today. The first cycle is always the worst because you've never gone through it before.
I had my 4th cycle yesterday for bowel cancer, and I still feel anxious every cycle.
Listen to your body and rest when you need to.

  • Thanks Dee. I found the cold cap the worst and it gave me a shocking headache. The rest was fine. I am very tired and abut nauseous today but it is tolerable.
Hopefully this is as bad as it gets  I hope your treatment goes well. How many do you have to go?

  • Everyone's side effects differ. This cycle I've got skin/ acne reactions. Similar to teenager skin. I saw a dermatologist last night who's prescribed creams so hopefully will help.

    oh the joys!
I'm having 6 cycles then a scan to see how things are. I'm stage 4 unfortunately but keeping positive.

Hope your headaches clear and you feel a bit stronger xx

  • Thanks so much Dee. I am having 6 cycles too so am doing the countdown

wishing you all the best with your treatment too and t
