Bowel Cancer, spread to liver and lungs

Hello,

My Dad who is 51 has just been told he has Bowel Cancer and scans have shown it has spread to his liver and both lungs. The only symptoms he had was a change in bowel habits 4 months ago and the doctors told him it was IBS until my dad pushed for further tests. He had the dreaded appointment last week which he was told it is inoperable due to multiple larger and smaller tumours in the liver and lungs and the bowel isn't fully obstructed. He is due to start Chemotherapy in a weeks time. I am just wondering of anyone else has experienced the same situation and what results have happened following chemotherapy whether things that improved etc and also if they have improved whether the option of surgery was then an option. Also he was told the life expectancy with treatment to prolong life/manage is on average 3 years. Any information with this kind of cancer, diagnosis would be a great help. Thankyou in advance x
