Hi everyone,
I'm not sure where to really begin. It started a couple of months ago, my dad (60 years old) got a terrible chesty cough which started producing specks of blood in his phglem. He went to the doctors who then arranged for a CT Scan where a shadow was found on the top right upper lobe of his lung. The doctor arranged for a PET-Scan and EBUS Biopsy.
We received the news today he has lung cancer and the shadow was a tumour. This has taken all of us by surprise. My dad is an incredibly active and fit person - cancer has never been anything that has ran through our immediate/extended family.
We've got an appointment with the oncologist who will go into more detail about the staging but the doctor said the good news is, the cancer is just in the lungs and has not spread. The lymphnodes are swollen which I think means that it has spread to there but it still seems very early on.
The plan is to go for chemo and radiotherapy together at once. The doctor says he does not wish to surgically remove it at this stage as there's no guarantee it will not come back. I guess it would make more sense to kill the cells and reduce the size of the tumor and maybe follow up with surgery with more chemo?
My eyes and head are sore from googling all kinds of things on google. But my main takeaway from this is, if you remain positive, positive will happen. So we're all trying to remain as positive and not bring change to our daily life/routine. Instead this will be part of our lives and we will just adopt around it.
I can't tell you how incredibly heart breaking it is to hear this, it's been a complete shock to all of us, especially my mum.
I'm here to get stories from everyone and their experiences. I want to hear all about how you all dealt with this and what we need to do to prepare for chemo/radiotherapy.
Thank you :)
