Lymphoma in the brain

My dad has been diagnosed with lesions in the brain and they suspect lymphoma. He only had all clear 6 months ago after having non hodgkinsons lymphoma on the spine 2 tumors but all cleared we waiting to see if he had biopsy but just want to see if any one has experienced this or knows some one?

Thanks

  • Hello Nicj21

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's recent diagnosis. It's obviously a difficult time for you particularly as he'd not long had good news following treatment for NHL.

I'm unsure if we've any members here who have been through similar but hopefully if we have they will reply to your post to share their experiences with you.

If you'd like to speak to one of our nurses for some advice and support you're most welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm).

Do let us know how he gets on.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you so much we are waiting for him to go to Cardiff but everything is taking so long and time isn't on our side we really need to get him there its horrible can't go in at the moment you feel helpless and this lymphoma is so rare it hard to look too far ahead hopefully we can get things moving

  • Hi Nic

I'm sorry to hear of your Dad's diagnosis. My mum was recently diagnosed with lymphomas in the brain also.

I can really sympathise with you feeling like everything is taking so long. My mum's initial symptoms were noticed in November last year and she didn't receive a formal diagnosis until she had the results of a biopsy which was only done 2 weeks ago.

Since then things have moved more quickly and she has started chemotherapy.

I hope that you're Dad is feeling as well as is possible and  things start moving towards treatment soon. I know that individual circumstances are likely to be different but with a similar diagnosis and as we're a little bit ahead in the process I'm happy to share any of our experiences which may be helpful for you.

    Take care

    Nat

  • Hi nat

Dad has just finished his first round of chemo so we are waiting now to see if it will help they have talked about him coming home but he is still confused what symptoms did ur mum have? With dad they said they going to try first treatment and then do a scan then go from there? It's all a waiting game

    Nic

  • I'm glad he's started treatment already. Symptoms in November were just difficulty moving one side of the body which improved drastically with the steroids. Movement on the other side was effected recently and was much worse (this is when another lymphoma was found) and she started to get very confused, sleepy, speech was a bit slurry too and her short term memory very bad.

Since the biopsy her steroids have been increased and she was still very confused until about a week later when this started to improve. Her short term memory still isn't very good but has improved a little and her movement I believe is still bad but it's hard to tell as we haven't seen her since she was admitted to hospital.

How has your Dad coped with the first round of chemo?

  • Yes he's been good he's always good on chemo then he had lymphoma last year 2 tumours in his back and pelvis so only had all clear last August so been a shock again.

Dad became incontinent and his memory has been very affected and Confused he been on steroids for about 2 weeks now seen bit of difference with them which is good but not massive hopefully chemo will help improve now aswell they are talking about leaving him next week if his bloods are OK and they will see about cathater and thing so it's one day at a time really we don't kno the next steps yet so hard when u can't see them isnt it

How's your mum eating and things?

Does she talk on the phone to you?

    Nic

  • Yeah, I definitely think not seeing them is one of the hardest parts. She's ok eating and drinking, has a catheter too.

She couldn't talk on the phone initially but this has improved over time, she still gets a bit confused but I definitely feel like I'm talking to the real her again now. She finds working out how to use the phone difficult so she asks the nurses to do it for her.

Have you been able to talk to your Dad?

    Nat

  • Yes we talk to him everyday on the phone he finds using the phone difficult aswell but will answer and call some times but doesn't text like used to hopefully things will improve me so they decide to do more treatment what part of the country are you from

    Nic

  • Hi checking in to see how your mum is doing and how the treatment journey is going

    Nic

  • Hi Nic

Thank you, she seems to be making good progress, her movement, speech and memory is improving. She's still an impatient so we haven't seen her for over 6 weeks now but she's getting much better on the phone. Second round of chemo is this week, no indication as to whether it's having any effect yet though.

How's your Dad doing? Has he been able to come home at all?

    Nat
