Anal cancer

Hi

I have just been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma anal cancer and would like to connect with anyone who is going through the same. I obviously know nothing apart from what I have read on the internet and am feeling pretty scared of what's to come so reaching out for any guidance.

thank you

  • Hi I'm in the same situation  as you, having been diagnosed at the end of May.  Having a PET scan on Wednesday before meeting the oncology team & my treatment plan gets put into place.

Trying not to panic is difficult, but I'm living by the mantra "dont panic till you're told to panic" & taking each new test as a step forward towards treatment.

Doesn't help that I'm extremely needle phobic, but guess I have to put my big girl pants on & cope wirh it moving forwards.

Happy to chat at any time.

  • Hi Smit- Girl!
mom 6 months post treatment for anal cancer. I had 5 and a half weeks of chemotherapy. It was tough at times and the side effects are sometimes difficult , but they are relatively short lived. You can find lots of tips and support on the specific Anal cancer forum. All of us are either waiting to start, going through it or recovering. It is a rare cancer but it’s highly treatable. The scariest time is when you first find out and no plan is in place. Once you know what you’re dealing with it’s so much better. Every one is different of course in how our bodies respond but the anal cancer forum is a place to feel confident in asking any questions. I found it invaluable and hope you will too.

  • hi ive got to start chemo and radiation treatment soon for anal cancer  im really scared

  • It’s natural to feel the way you do- we’ve all been there. Once the treatment starts you will feel so much better. I felt no symptoms for 3 weeks into the treatment- after that it was difficult at times but all over so quickly. We are all different and I feel I got off reasonably lightly and now I can look forward. You will get there. There is a specific Anal cancer forum and you will get lots of helpful advice and support- so why not log on there now.

Sending you hugs. Keep in touch. There is so much help with advice on ointments and medication on that forum. Don’t forget that your care team are there to support you too.
