Confused - need help

Hi All,

I have been reading these forums for a while, and thought I'd post for some help.

Background: My mum is 55, and has a known fibroid. Symptoms include: bloated stomach, loss of appettie, difficulty to pass stool

Since Christmas, she has been extremely unwell and become bed bound. The doctors initially did a stool sample, post New Years, and found an infection, which they were treating her with antibiotics.

However, her stomach swelling and general fatigue nature did not go away with this, so they took her in for an examination. With this appointment, they noticed that there was growth in her uterus, and her belly is now the size of someone who is 33 weeks pregnant. They therefore conducted the CA125 blood test, this came back with a high reading of 274. However, due to her existing fibroid condition, they were unable to determine if it was ovarian cancer.

Fast forward two weeks, a pelvic and abdominal scan was conducted, which found mass (potential tumours)  in the liver and lower abdominal. However, due to the abnormal liver, they conducted a CT scan on her. But again, from this they have not been able to conclude if it is cancer, what type of cancer, and if it's primary/ secondary cancer from the liver. They are now suggesting a biopsy. But have stated they it is high chance it is cancer.

Has anyone been in similar situations? I feel like I'm going crazy, because I'm now scared it's secondary liver cancer, therefore suggesting an advanced cancer. Could the biopsy still show that it isn't cancer? If it is advance cancer, does that mean no treatment is available?

I'm sorry for all the questions, any help is appreciated. I'm just really scared and don't want to lose my mum at such a young age, she's my everything.

  • Hi Srahx,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read of what your mum is going through - I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you and those around you.

Firstly I hope you're able to find out some answers about this from your mum's medical team before too long. It sounds as if the uncertainty is confusing and causing worry.

If you'd like to talk anything through with our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Meanwhile, if anyone here has any similar experience then hopefully they'll be along soon.

Whatever happens, we're always here for support on this forum if you need it at any point.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
