Melanoma

Hi, thanks for allowing me to join.

I have just had the confirmation that my lesion that was removed from my back two weeks ago is in fact a melanoma and I will be going back for a WLE and Sentinel Lymph node biopsy soon, due to the thickness, which was 1.3mm. I'm really just looking for some reassurance, and hopefully someone to chat to who has had similar and can tell me what to expect, as Dr Google has got me worried! I had convinced myself that it would be completely harmless, so I'm still in shock.

Thanks or reading

  • Hi, Firstly I am sorry to hear your news, try to stay positive which I know is difficult. I to am waiting for results from a lesion taken out on my back two weeks ago, I have called and results are in but can't tell me over the phone, I'm guessing I will get a letter. May I please ask how you were contacted? I have found the process so fast to be totally honest from doctor looking to being referred then booked in to have it all removed was only one week. I hope you are ok avoid google as I've been fine then looked on google and got stressed out!!

  • Hi linseyloo,

I'm available to chat by pm if it will help. I will send you a friend request. Stay off Dr Google meanwhile. Good luck with the WLE and SLNB,

  • Hi, and thank you for your reply.

I was notified by phone and my understanding was that the results were in a couple of days beforehand, but the surgical team have a meeting to discuss the results before contacting you, so you should have a phone call soon.

I hope you get a good result, and please return to let me know.

  • Hi Lindsey.

l had mole removed August and returned as positive.

l had my diagnosis of Cancer on 20/10/20.

l had my SLNB & WLE on 22/12/20.

Yesterday l received my SNLB biopsy results so about 6 weeks after surgery.

Gives you an idea of potential timescale but l was told that after Christmas they cancelled all SNLB surgery in our area.

The scan immediately prior to the SNLB surgery was the worst bit. Depending on your scan l had to hold my hands above my head for the duration of the 30 minutes and arms started cramping after about 10 mins and it really hurt!

Surgery was a breeze after that.

Apart from an internal infection dealt with by antibiotics after the recovery/pain etc was fine.

TBH waiting for surgery etc does drain you but it soon comes round.

Everyone involved has been great as well.

    Hope that helps.

    Good luck
