Confused mess

Hi I'm new to all this so please bare with me..  In July last year my dad noticed he had a soft lump on the left side of his neck, he contacted the doctors and they put it down to infection so he was on antibiotics.

Few weeks past and the lump was still the same so he had to wait for a ultra scan but with everything going off with covid it was delayed. eventually I told him to get something moving and they reffered him too the neck ear and throat department.

Once he was there they decided to take three biopsys and draw the fluid out and send them away for testing, after a week the lp filled up again, he got a phone call to go back at this appointment they told him that the liquid was sadly showing up cancer but they don't know where, they even put a small camera up his nostril to look at the back of his throat nothing there so they have now done a full blood count and has to wait for a mri and ct scan. There baffled as he is fit and well he's 62

As you can imagine I am petrified of what's to come has anyone had this happen to them as its confusing.

  • Hi Sammi,

We joined the 'cancer club ' (oesophageal) in August I can only speak for us, but this period is the worst. Waiting to find out what , where , how much, what can be done was a total nightmare.

Once we knew what we were dealing with and added timescales we felt , not exactly'better' about it, but a bit more pragmatic and really made a conscious descision to carry on as normal and deal with it as it came.
Time is the only thing that will make more sense of it. The shock is horrible. We expected maybe an ulcer or a bit of inflammation, certainly not Oesophageal cancer!!!
my best advice is to carry on as you normally would- I found 'distractions' helped a lot, stopped a lot of over thinking things- which I am very good at (: and coming up with the worst possible outcomes- evidenced in my earliest posts (:

    take care.
