My dad has been diagnosed with carotid artery cancer

Hi, this is my first time posting. My dad has been diagnosed with carotid artery cancer. It is wrapped around the artery. He previously had tonsil cancer. They say it is inoperable. But will be trying either chemotherapy and immunotherapy or just immunotherapy. I am really worried and scared.

Edit :

I am looking for some glimmer of hope and possibilities! He is not in UK, he's in Ireland. I am living in UK and cannot go home (covid). I am a healthcare professional also, but I feel completely useless when it comes to this.

  • Hello worried_daughter21,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I can imagine this is such a frustrating time for you as you are unable to go and visit your dad in Ireland at the moment because of the current covid situation. I am so sorry to hear that your dad's cancer is inoperable but I hope that his treatment is effective and helps reduce the tumour.

I hope that you will hear from others on the forum who have also looked after a loved one who has been diagnosed with this type of cancer.

You might want to consider giving our team of nurses a call to talk things through with them. I'm sure they will be able to offer some advice and support. If you'd like to speak to them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how things progress for your dad.

    Best wishes,
    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
