Prostate cancer - Why CT scan? Husband has already had a MRI

I thought you lovely people could help.  Dont want to keep hassling my husband as he doesnt know either.

He had a PSA score of 138.  He has had a MRI Scan and had a call with the consultant who says it has spread to the tip of his bones and his lymph nodes. He is 56, fit and healthy and the only sign was peeing problems.  He is not black, has no history in his family.

He is waiting for the final results of his biopsy but the consultant says its very unlikely to be any different to what she has said so far.

So today he got an appointment for a CT Scan in Radiology.   Why would he need this scan too?

Thank you.  Going for counselling tomorrow.  I feel robbed of our future.  He has had his first HT injection and will be having one every month and will then be taking Enzalutanide.

  • Hello Moonstone12

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis. It sounds as if you're feeling really overwhelmed by all this at the moment.

It's common for people diagnosed with cancer to have different types of scans. A CT scan will give the consultant different information to that gained during the MRI and will help them to create a more detailed picture of what is going on for your husband.

I can see that you've mentioned you're receiving counselling but I'd suggest giving our team of nurses a call as well. I'm sure that they will be able to talk things through with you and give you some information and support that you might find helps you to feel less anxious. If you'd like to talk things through with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
