  • Hi, I'm awaiting a diagnosis for bowel cancer, I backed out of a colonoscopy and gastroscopy early Jan as I thought the whole experience was traumatic, I feel in despair now as I've since had a CT scan and MRI scan, found a nodual in my liver and adrenal gland, I just don't know what to think I'm going out of my mind with worry, since booked another endoscopy as I need to know one way or the other dreading it tbh.

  • I also refused colonoscopy  because I was so terrified  of having it done can anyone tell me some of there symptoms im in so much pain in my lower abdomen. I'm unable to pass wind im so scared I have bowel cancer I also had a positive FIT test. I have no one to talk to about my fears

  • Hi and welcome to the chat. I know it's normal to be scared but PLEASE have the test. If there is anything wrong the sooner you get looked at the better your chances are. Plus you may be worryingly about nothing. I was so scared when I got my results but now I am so glad they found it and I have an operation booked to get it out of me. Early detection is the way forward. There are lots of us in the same boat and can help each other through this. Please rethink and chat to me if you need to xx

  • Hi pupleprincess thanks for reply I had to rejoin has i forgot my password. The hospitail said I will be booked in for a sigmoidoscopy but they can't tell me when I was wondering did you have any symptoms iam in awfull pain. Buscopan not helping at all iam so worried I cant think of anything else xx

  • Hi, glad they are doing more tests and the one you are having isn't as invasive as a colonoscopy. My bowels/stomach ache all the time. I must admit when it's really bad buscopan doesn't touch it. I sometimes find a drop of brandy and hot water helps. I had a really bad episode a couple of weeks ago through the night and the pain went right through to my back. We called 111 and they sent an ambulance but after doing all my observations and they were normal they told me it was trapped wind! Sorry I can't be of much help xx

  • Hi, how are you doing? I remember you saying that you're booked in for surgery on the 24th, how did your Consultant appointment go?

I had an appointment last week and thankfully there wasn't t any evidence that it's spread. They can't promise about the lymph nodes until they test them. I'm just awaiting a date for surgery now. So once they've removed the tumour then I'll know more xx

  • Hi, lovely to hear from you. So glad it hasn't spread, it's such a relief isn't it? I wonder how soon you will get your date? Hope it's not long.  Consultation went well last week, he seems a really lovely guy. Explained everything to us in a way we could understand. All the possible complications are scarey but just want this thing out of me now! Even the chance of getting COVID doesn't put me off wanting to get on with the surgery. Only 2 weeks tomorrow now. I am apprehensive but have no choice!, sending positive thoughts your way xx

  • Hi, how are you doing? Do you have a date for your surgery yet! Mine is next Wednesday now , getting nervous but can't wait for it all to be over! Xx

  • Hi there, hope you're ok.

No still not got a date for surgery, I saw my consultant 2 weeks ago now and was told 2-4 weeks for a date, I just need it sorted now as obviously you worry about it spreading the longer it's there. I had my covid jab this week so I'm ready now, just waiting for the call, then it'll be pre op and another covid test.

I bet you're feeling mixed emotions, anxious for the surgery but relieved to get it out and done with xx

  • Just wishing you good luck for your surgery today. Please update when you're well enough xx

  • Hi, thank you so much for your message. Apologies for not replying sooner. Been very ill and forgot my password to the cancer chat! The operation itself went very well. No stoma so that was a bonus. However through that first night my bowels went into involuntary spasms, it was horrendous, and I was losing a lot of blood. Most scarey time of my life I have to say. This happened 3 times during the course of the night, I was mortified. Then on day one post op I started being very sick so out of both ends! God I just sat and cried. Couldn't keep anything down so didn't eat for 4 days solid. Then they moved me to another hospital and the journey nearly killed me I was in so much pain. Going to complain about that when I feel up to it. Finally got back home today but I am exhausted and still in pain but very, very happy to be home.  Have you got your date yet? X

  • Aww firstly I'm so happy that you're done and home safely. Also no stoma, I pray I don't need one too. Sorry you had to go through all that though, it sounds horrific. They shouldn't be transferring a seriously ill patient just been through surgery to a different hospital, definitely complain when you feel up to it. No I'm still in limbo!! Fed up now, I'm going to phone the hospital again tomorrow for an update. It's been 4 weeks now since my scans and consultations appointment, I should at least have a date by now instead of them just leaving me without any treatments xx
