Bowel cancer

Hi there I have just been diagnosed with bowel cancer I had a colonoscopy Ct and MRI scan over the past 2 weeks I am waiting to find out what my treatment plan will be . Anxious times is anyone else going through the same on here ?

  • Aww congratulations that's lovely.

I feel like it's a grieving process I'm going through, I didn't get out of bed all weekend, didn't eat anything hardly even had a drink. I've got dressed today for the first time and nipped out with my daughter then treated her to McDonald's. It's hard to face the world when everyone else is just going about their business as normal if you know what I mean.

I agree though we have to fight and get through this for our children/grandchildren/families and ourselves x

  • Just had an early morning phone call from the MRI department they want me to go for a scan on Sunday. Now I'm even more worried because they've probably received the biopsy results which I'm thinking are showing it's an aggressive tumour. So that's MRI on Sunday and CT less then 24 hours later. I just don't see this ending well for me x

  • Oh you poor thing, you must be worried sick. Whereabouts in the country are you? Just wonder if they are fairly quiet and therefore doing some catch up appointments? I live in Northumberland and am getting all my scans done extremely quickly and the hospital seems fairly quiet. I had my CT scan this morning at 8.30am and was out for 8.45am. 5 days to wait now to find out if it's spread, it's hell isn't it? Thinking of you and remember to keep us posted xx

  • How did your scan go? Not sure whether I need to take a dressing gown like I did for my colonoscopy. I know that they don't tell you anything at scans, my MRI is on Sunday afternoon followed by a CT is Monday morning. Yes hell is definitely a word that expresses my feelings right now. I'm from the Yorkshire area. When I've been to hospitals and Doctors recently I've often said I can't believe how quiet it is x

  • Hi there I think that it depends on where you live as to how quickly you get seen , I was seen within a week as there were cancellations. You do not need a dressing gown fir the MRI as you wear trousers and top they give you . It is a noisy experience but ok doesn't hurt same with ct scan all ok no worries. Soon after they have all the details together they will ask you to see them for an appointment to talk to you about the treatment plan .
please take it easy and rest when you can and also take vitamins and get out for fresh air xxx

  • Hi, scan went fine but won't get results for about 5 days. The worst time I think. Didn't need a dressing gown and the other gown provided. I have taken to just wearing a vest under my jumper whe I go now, not bothering with a bra. You always have to take them off but you can keep a vest on, just feels a little more dignified. Will be thinking about you on Sunday xx

  • Hi, how are you doing/feeling? The lady on the telephone this morning mentioned that it would be noisy and told me not to eat a large lunch ( I've not eaten a proper meal since Christmas Day) I did get weighed yesterday morning and noticed I'd lost half a stone in a week so I did eat a little more yesterday because I felt very weak just walking down the stairs. I finally went to toilet after my colonoscopy I was so afraid and anxious to go but it was ok x

  • Hi, have you had an MRI aswell as a CT scan? I too have stopped wearing a bra to appointments etc I feel more comfortable without and like you say they ask you to remove especially wired ones. I remember many years ago having an MRI on my chest and having some really cold fluid pumped into me x

  • Hi, no just a CT scan. Hoping I do t have to have an MRI as I don't cope very well with them! X

  • Good evening

I originally joined this forum to give my experience with the horrible colonoscopy I had but now more worried about my weight. Can I ask do they weigh you before your mri and ct scan? I'm more worried now about them not operating on me to remove it because I'm obese.

    Thanks
