Bilateral breast cancer

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has had bilateral breast cancer with multiple breast cancer lumps?

I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer when I was pregnant. Just had the 1 lump then unfortunately lost the baby. I then had MRI and more lumps were spotted and bisopys of 7 lumps in total on both breasts. Some of the lumps came back cancer 2 in left 1 in right. I have been recommended to have double mastectomy stage 1 cancer. Think the consultants are concerned as there are 3 separate cancers 2 of which are also close together separated by 1cm .Just wondered if anyone else has been through above and also if anyone had double mastectomy and how did you feel about it? Also how was the recovery etc?

many thanks

  • Hi Loulou1983

I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer nearly three years ago. I had high grade DCID/LCIS invasive ductal and invasive lobular. I had 3 tumours in the right breast and 2 tumours in the left. Although I was offered a double mastectomy I declined and opted for a lumpectomy but this was before I knew about the invasive cancer as this was diagnosed after my operation.

My operation took 5 hours as there was some reconstruction and I stayed in hospital overnight and home the following morning. I was not in any pain and out and about the second day post-op and had to have a second operation to clear some margins. After that, I went through radiotherapy and aromatase inhibitors for 5 years as my cancer was ER+.

Hopefully, someone will come along who has had a double mastectomy to tell you how it went.

Do you have a date for the operation yet? have you been offered reconstruction?
