32 just diagnosed with Breast cancer

Hi Everyone,

I received the dreaded call this morning that I have Cancer. I don't know much right now other than it's Breast cancer which has spread to my armpit. The limbo stage is agonising, I just want some answers.

The main reason for my post is because I have seen great survivial rates for women over 40 but just wondered if there's anyone on here under 40 that's beaten it? Or if there's anyone currently going through treatment and if you have any advice?

Kind Regards

Kerry

  • Hello Kerry1021

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been diagnosed with breast cancer this morning. You're right - this period of not knowing what the next steps will be is particularly difficult but once you have some more info it generally helps in feeling more focussed about things.

We have some fabulous ladies here who have been through a journey with breast cancer and I'm sure they will pop along to say Hello! and share their experiences with you soon but I wanted to post to share three things with you.

Firstly I'd really recommend giving our nurses a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040. I know they will be able to offer you some advice and support.

Secondly, check out the Breast Cancer Now website information on Someone Like Me. It's a great way to connect with others who have been through the same situation although it can take a little while to connect you up.

Thirdly, there is an organisation called the Younger Breast Cancer Network. They are primarily on Facebook but they are a support group specifically for women under the age of 45 and I know you will find lots of support from other women around your age there.

I hope this helps Kerry. Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on over the next few weeks.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn

  • Hi Kerry. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in june at the same age as you. Mine has also gone to the lymph nodes in my armpit and there was also another area discovered in my other breast. I have been told that they're aiming to cure me and so far, I've had chemo and recently had surgery. I think it will be radiotherapy next. But there is definitely a lot they can do for you and you will have the best people looking after you. Do you know what your treatment plan is? I wish you all the best and you can add me as a friend on here if you like

  • Hi Amy thanks for replying to my post.

I don't know a lot right now apart from it's the triple negative type and I will need further investigations to determine if it's spread before a treatment plan is discussed.

may I ask what type of breast cancer you have?

It's nice to hear that your treatment is going well and your on your way to being cured.

  • It's a very confusing and stressful time. I remember waiting for more tests, I found the waiting the worst part. But you will feel better once you have your treatment plan and then you can focus on getting through that. Mine is invasive ductal carcinoma, grade 2, stage 3. It's also er positive and her2 positive.
