Kidney Tumour

Hi guys, hope your all keeping safe.

I had a biopsy done in August 2020 that came back uncertain after an abnormal 4.5 cm mass was found on my left kidney. After a CT scan was done, it was decided that a partial nephrectomy was to be completed. This was done on the 26th Nov 2020. Everything went well during surgery until last week I had another scan and got called in to the hospital a few days later. The consultant explained to me that it was really difficult and he didn't think that he removed it all, he also confirmed that it was cancer at this appointment. My emotions were everywhere as I didn't know if al had been removed. I have a CT scan booked in for Tuesday to determine if anything was actually left behind and if to remove the remainder of my kidney. As you can imagine, I am so scared and worried and just wondering if anyone has been through something similar?

  • Hello Kiran

I'm sorry to hear about all that you've been through over the past few months.

Being diagnosed with cancer at any point can be a real rollercoaster. Factor into that a global pandemic and then the uncertainty around your Consultant having removed all the tumour and it's understandable that you're feeling anxious about things. Hopefully, the CT scan on Tuesday will bring some answers which will help you to move on with the next steps of your treatment plan.

I wonder if you might find it helpful to chat things through with one of our team of nurses? I'm sure that they would be able to offer some advice and reassurance whilst you're waiting for your scan and the results. If you'd like to speak to them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for news after your scan. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
