Dear respected members,
I am Naveed residing in UK since 2010. I am approaching this forum with an hope to get some professional advise and support regarding my mom’s health which is currently living in South Asia. My mom has recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The diagnosis was based on mammography and CT/PET scan.
Enhancing soft tissue lesion in medial quadrant of right breast measuring 3.8 x 3.8 cm with surrounding fat stranding infiltrating underlying pectoralis muscle (max SUV 13)
Mild FDG noted in few right axillary lymph nodes, largest measuring 1.2 x 1 cm (max SUV 3)
Based on this, I was trying to stage the cancer to understand the various options for the treatment. Based on NHS website and also cancer research UK, when the tumour is larger than 2cm but not larger than 5cm and the cancer has spread to 1 to 3 lymph nodes in the armpit or to the lymph nodes near the breast bone, it is categorised as Stage 2B. The relevant treatment for this stage is recommended as surgery followed by radio therapy. However, the doctor in my home country is staged the cancer as stage 3 (T4bN1M0) and suggesting to go for Chemotherapy followed by surgery and radio therapy. However, given her health condition (diabetic), we are not fully convinced that we have to choose chemotherapy as the primary treatment. As we all know that the Chemotherapy will significantly influence her health condition further. I am
I would like ask the respected members for their advice on staging this cancer and what is the best approach for the treatment.
I really appreciate your time and kind advice.
Thank you,
Naveed
