Bile duct cancer.

My mum went into hospital with jaundice in nov and in dec was diagnosed with bile duct cancer. It is inoperable  and all can offer is chemo to hopefully shrink it and buy her some time. How does this work? How much time can your "borrow" with incurable cancer. I'm so scared for her and she is unable to start chemo until she has gained weight back that's she lost in this short time (about 3 stone) so what if the cancer spreads further in that time. I don't know what to do or say to help her. Everything has happened so fast, cruel cruel cancer.

  • Hello Goldnsilver

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. It's obviously a very difficult time for you all and it's understandable that you may be feeling overwhelmed by things.

It can sometimes help to talk things through and I'm wondering if you might benefit from chatting to one of our nurses. I'm sure they will be able to answer some of your questions and offer some advice and support. They're back in the office on Monday and are available on 0808 800 4040 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm).

Keep in touch and let us know how you're both getting on.

    Best wishes,
