Waiting for Melanoma CT and Lymph node biopsy

I'm so worried and making myself sick with reading about Melanoma statistics (which I know are out of date).

I've been diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma 2c which was missed by a GP when I first asked a year ago. It had grown to 5mm deep by time it was removed. I'm 35.

Im absolutely sick with worry that it has spread and everything online pointing to the odds that it has considering how deep it went.

Not sure what I'm looking for here, maybe just a handheld and some similar stories.

My CT isnt for another 4 weeks still and biopsy another 7. Private healthcare available but doesnt seem to be able to speed things up since its Christmas time.

Does anyone know if it gets to that stage, how long the lymph node biopsy results usually take?

  • Hi. I'm having my SLNB now and have been told 4-6 weeks for results

  • Hey Berryblue! I too am 35 and was diagnosed with my first malignant melanoma last week! But what I wanted to tell you was that my Mum had a stage 2c melanoma (it was her 9th one) ... and it didn't spread! I keep reading how much treatment has improved, that's what I'm focusing on :) Hope all goes well!

  • Hi Berryblue

I had a wider excision and SLNB done on December 2nd after being diagnosed with a stage 1b melanoma on my leg. Mine was also missed a year ago, after having a check up with a skin specialist. I was told 4-6 weeks for results. I'm 39. I went privately for the initial excision but was told that it would be quicker for me to go via NHS for 2nd one and the SLNB.

It is such a horrible wait, and I'm trying not to think about it too much, just focusing on Christmas and our impending house move, but night time is pretty horrid. A friend of mine owns a health food shop and gave me a jar of Cherry Night which is a supplement of magnesium, cherries and Glycine. It has helped me sleep much better.....and even if I wake in the middle of the night, it helps me to go back to sleep rather than lying awake in a panic. I'd recommend it.

I hope you're ok and not feeling too worried. Thinking of you.
