Black stools Capecitabine

Hello,

This is thefirst time I have eposted to this forum.

I'm 67 years old and have Just completed my chemo for bowel cancer.

The Chemo has caused my stomach to bleed and give me dark stools (I have a Stoma bag. )

These dark stools Indicate a bleeding stomach which is difficult to stop and hence Causing low haemoglobin hence making me very tried and weak.

Has anyone on this forum come across similar experiences.

Thank you and I do hope someone can help me.

  • Hello Downing and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry about the constipation you're currently contending with. It sounds very challenging but hopefully some of our members who have also had this will share their advice and experiences with you soon.

I hope this information we have about coping with constipation will prove useful but our team of cancer nurses are available during the week (except bank holidays) on 0808 800 4040 between 9a.m - 5p.m if you'd like to discuss this with them as well.

I really hope things start to improve for you soon Downing.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Thank you for your concern Steph.

I was wondering Steph, if any of people who write into Cancer Research have had Issues/ problems with Black stools after taking the cancer drug Capecitabine.

    Again, thankyou for your help.

I'm a little green when it comes to these forums .

  • Hello Downing10,

yes l can relate to darkened stools from capecitabine which l linked to bleeding from the bowel. Now that you have finished treatment it will take some months to leave your system as the effect is cumalative, but should start to improve.

l hope your treatment was not too debilitating and will prove a success, and that you can enjoy your road to recovery,

                                                                                             David
