Breast Cancer one node positive.. What next?

Hi all

My mum had a recent lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. Today she was told one of three nodes were positive.  She is worried about having complete axillary node clearance due to the risk of lymphodema (she's almost 70) they said she would definitely need radio and hormone therapy afterwards and possibly chemo, chemo might still be suggested even if the rest of the nodes are clear. Has anyone experienced similar?

We are still trying to process everything and decide the best way forward. Thank you

  • Hello Lindwal15

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis and the dilemma she now finds herself in regarding treatment options. Hopefully if we've any members here who have been through similar they will post to share their experiences with you.

I wondered if you or your Mum might find it helpful to talk to one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they may be able to offer some support and information. If you'd like to talk to them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

My best wishes to your Mum for her treatment.
