Recently Diagnosed Stage I Melanoma

Hi All

Previously diagnosed with DCIS (Breast Cancer) in 2017 and stil being monitored for that but all seems well.  Last week diagnosd with Melanoma Stage 1A.  A WLE is scheduled for next week.  I have since diagnosis  been unable to sleep due to itching all over body - this is present through the day although seems worse at night.  Dont know whether this is extreme anxiety because of the diagnosis (letting my thoughts run away with me)  or associated with the Melanoma.  Waiting for hospital to contact me with details of specialist nurse I can talk to.  Just wanted to get that off my chest.  Husband had Stage III Bowel Cancer and is now clear - he says I am over reacting and need to calm down and stay positive.  I was fine with the Melanoma diagnosis and very positive - that was until the itching started.  Has anyone experienced anything similar after the melanoma has been removed?  Many thanks.

  • Hi Elle and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about your recent diagnosis but it's good it's been caught early and a WLE has been scheduled for next week.

Unfortunately I can't offer any insight in to the itching; as you say it could be partially influenced by your anxiety at the moment, but hopefully some of our members who have experienced this will share their advice and experiences with you soon.

If you'd like to discuss this with one of our cancer nurses they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Wishing you all the best for your next week Elle.

  • Hi Steph

Thank you for your reply and kind wishes for next week.

Really helpful.  Am convinced it is anxiety - daughter suggested meditation and yoga so I will try that and see if it abates any.

    Best regards
