Life after using cold cap

Hello ; I finished my chemo in April  followed by radiotherapy. ( lumpectomy and 2 lymph nodes removed November 19)  I used the cold cap and although lost quite a bit of hair I kept the most of it but went a bit bald on top . No one would ever know I'd had cancer. I now have about 1 1/2 inch hair growth on top which is a different texture and a bit bouffanty which looks a bit odd. My hair is just shoulder length and straight, it tends to look better if I clip it up . I just wandered if anyone had the same experience , and just wanted a chat really . I still only wash my hair once a week and still lose some . Also I've had trouble with my arm since radiotherapy , it's weak now and my shoulder is painful sometimes .  I was referred for physio and was told this is normal and may never be as strong as before., which is ok but sometimes my mind does overtime thinking

  • Hello this is the first time ive replied to any posts but your situation soundd very similar to mine except i had masectomy. I had 2 cold caps in march then covid started and they wouldn't let me continue with it so i ended chemo i lost about 60 % of my hair its shoulder length now it looks a mess growing at top of head thick and wavy 2 inches at back under rest of hair thats longer i clip it up for now how to go forward i dont know my scalp is very sensitive now sometimes feels numb not too good now weathers getting colder its goes really cold its been a bad journey also 4 weeks after rsfiotherapy I had about 6 weeks of neck shoulder and chest pain not good take care

  • Hello, I'm sorry you didn't get to finish using the cold cap. I was on my last 2 cycles of chemo when Covid started and they asked me if I would mind not using it but as it was my last 2 they agreed to let me continue. I was happy with the results and just wore hats to hide the bald area on top. My head was also a little sore at times nothing major tho. I use simple shampoo and conditioner and only wash once a week. I use dry shampoo to freshen it up. My arm still weak and shoulder after 6 months and breast feels tender but I'm very fortunate to still have my breast. It's been an emotional struggle but I've come through it. I hope you ok love . Did you buy any wigs ?  You can wear a nice warm hat now weather is colder, I lost my eyebrows but there back but my eyelashes are short and can't get mascara on them lol . But end of the day I'm ok . I'm still having herseptin injections in my thigh every 3 week nearly finished tho think it's my last one on 23rd dec. I hope you get through this, stay strong and think positive take care x

  • thanks for your reply this is the first time ive replied to anyone even though ive been looking for months on mr google way too much, its scary isnt it i presume your her2 positive i knew nothing about cancer before all this now i know too much. i didnt buy a wig before chemo tried a few on in a shop looked like hayley from corra then it shut down. I lost about 60% of my hair its all different lengths now i had bilateral breast cancer and 2 nodes im her2 negative

  • Well it's the first time I've posted on here , wanted to do it earlier but I'm useless with technology and I couldn't do it so that was my first post , I thought my moan was trivial as there are a lot of people suffering on here but I haven't been able to talk to anyone who's been through it with COVID restrictions, yes I'm her2 positive and was really scared when I was diagnosed as they said it was fast growing, thank god I feel my breasts regularly and found it. I tried a wig at trend wig shop before chemo started and chose one in case I didn't persevere with the cold cap, but I didn't buy it as I didn't need it. Ha ha ! Hayley cropper  that made me laugh .  The worry never goes away does it! I wish I could have my mammogram ( June I think ) and put my mind at rest because with my arm / shoulder not reaght I worry it's spread but they said they got it all and there was no cancer in lymph nodes.  I really appreciate you replying to me thank you very much. I'm 52 by the way do you mind me asking how old you are? X

  • Hello its took me ages to get back on farting about !! I am 54 and live in Sheffield i went to the same hospital you mentioned not allowed to mention certain things ive realised like doctors names and stuff
