Optima Trial

I am now facing the dilemma of the Optima trial. I am 54 with a 4.7mm Grade 3 tumour HER Negative ER weakly positive. 3 lymph nodes are involved. My treatment plan was originally chemotherapy first, on the trial it's a simple mastectomy first. I am wondering if there is a disadvantage having surgery first and then potentially chemotherapy. How have others got on with the trial?

  • Hello NCG
I'm sorry to hear that you've had a breast cancer diagnosis. I'm sure it's been a difficult time for you and it sounds as if you're uncertain about which way to go with the OPTIMA trial

I'm not sure we currently have any members who are on the trial but we do have some posts from women who have previously mentioned that they are taking part. It might be helpful to read through those posts which you can find by using the forum search function and looking for "OPTIMA". Hopefully this may help you make the right decision for you.

Do talk to your Oncologist and your breast care nurse about your concerns; I'm sure they will be able to give you some information. Alternatively you're welcome to call our nurses who may be able to help. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
