Mums just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer

I feel alone and not sure I am strong enough. I'm a single parent. I've gone off sick from work (community health care ). I can't cope with work , family and taking care of mum. Only diagnosed this week, literally can't get my head round it. She's been suffering for 6 months and 6 months later we get a diagnosis. Seems to be taking forever, she still has to have more tests to see if this has bread to lungs. She has lesions on her liver. What treatment is there for pancreatic cancer ? I know it is not looking promising, this is devastating, I'm losing her , I don't know what I'll do

any advice about preparing yourself ?

  • Hello adl

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. Understandably it's a difficult time for you both.

Treatment options will depend on the position of the cancer in the pancreas, how big it is, whether it has spread, and your Mum's general health. We do have some information on our website here that you might find useful but hopefully, once the rest of the investigations have been completed, the Drs will have a clearer picture of what is going on for your Mum.

We know that this period of waiting can be really worrying and lots of our members here will understand how anxious you may be feeling. It can help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it helpful to chat to one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they will be able to offer some advice and support. If you'd like to talk to them they're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch adl and let us know how you're both getting on.

    Best wishes,
