Just found out I have (or have had) cervical cancer.

Hello, I had an abnormal smear a few weeks ago so had a colposcopy where they immediately did a LLETZ to remove severe cell changes. I've been waiting patiently for results and nothing has arrived yet, but I noticed this morning on my NHS app that it says I have a cancerous tumour on my cervix and an accompanying document says it's stage 1a.

Obviously I've discovered this on the weekend so can't call the doc or hospital to find out the exact scenario, but is it possible I HAD cancer but the LLETZ has removed it, or do I still have cancer? The letter that said stage 1 was from the tumour clinic MDT team and I've read they're involved with cancer.

Absolutely gagging for this day to hurry up so I can call the hospital tomorrow and find out. I am staying calm as it does say stage 1a so that is very early stages which I hope means treatment will be successful, but right now I'm in limbo and a bit in shock I think.

discalimer- I know the NHS app does warn you that by signing up you might see the info before doctors have so I've only got myself to blame, but never expected to see cancerous tumour on my records :-(

  • I had cervical cancer and had to have a hysterectomy but was ok after.  Hope you get sorted soon, horrible waiting for results

  • Thanks Jaq. I spoke to the consultant and they confirmed it is stage 1a1 cervical cancer and I'm back in hospital on the 30th. Feel a bit shocked but then have no right to complain as it's such an early stage that it will be totally treatable so I have no reason to be upset. The consultant mentioned they didn't get it all in last LLETZ so will need further treatment and one of the options she mentioned is a hysterectomy, but there is another more minor option before that if I prefer to retain fertility. I am going to see them in the 30th so will see what they say then. You're right though, the waiting is crap!
