  • Hi sorry to hear your sad news my partner was diagnosed in may this year with myeloma hes 52 which is young for this cancer unfortunately the myeloma has damaged his kidneys which is the only organ it affects if its going to but you can have it without . His only symptom was tiredness and blood in urine which they thought was infections he also had checks for cancer in the bladder by the time its was finally diagnosed it had damaged them so now is reliant on dialysis  every week . Its just awful we were told a time  frame between 1 -10 +years taking into account other problems which can stem from it as all cancers,  its been  frightening and impossible to get your head round  but there is wonderful things they can do he started on valcade chemo  the day he was diagnosed which was  confirmed with a bone biopsy and after a few months on that his myeloma is almost in remission.  He has just had a 3 week stay in oxford for a stem cell transplant with his own cells to help to keep the myeloma at bay obviously that comes with risks 3 infections later hes home and still very unwell  deo it. But if your dad is fit a few rounds of chemo( which is not easy) he could also go in remission . I try and take each day as it comes if i can answer anything please ask
