  • Hi Possum1 and welcome to Cancer Chat!

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It is normal to feel anxious and worried as it's all still a bit of a shock to you I am sure. I hope it won't be too long now before you have your appointment. Merkel cell carcinoma is, as I am sure you know, a very rare type of skin cancer and you can find out more about it on our website on this page. Although it is very rare, you are not the first person to post on Cancer Chat who has been diagnosed with merkel cell carcinoma and if you type in the keywords 'merkel cell carcinoma' on our forum search which is located on the blue banner at the top, you will be able to see past threads on the subject and feel free to respond anyone you feel you would like to get in touch with. For example, [@raretez]‍  posted this thread about being diagnosed with MCC and [@rhi.rhi]‍ also mentioned that his or her dad was also diagnosed with merkel cell carcinoma earlier this year. Those are only two examples amongst several others so don't hesitate to have a little search around the forum and to reply to any thread you feel would be of interest to you.

Our cancer nurses are also just a free phone call away and you can give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 if there is anything you would like to ask them - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Try not to worry too much - I know it's really hard but I am sure you will be in super expert hands soon to deal with this. I am sending you lots of positive waves ahead of your next appointment and hope that you find out more soon about treatment.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
