Lung cancer and suspected spread

Hi my dad was just diagnosed with lung cancer yesterday he went to A&E with a fracture on his arm that turned out to be to a tumor on the bone they have also detected swollen lymph nodes. I'm absoultey petrified we were told it's not cureable and they don't no if its treatable until they run the further tests and see a lung doctor, my aunt was diagnosed with the same in July and gone in 4 weeks please someone tell me they have had a similar experience and have been treated to even prolong time

  • Hello Ellen8889

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's fracture and that this in turn has led to him being diagnosed with cancer. It's understandable that you're feeling so scared and upset about this news especially give then you've recently lost another family member to lung cancer.

I think that most of our members here will know how difficult this period of waiting for tests and results can be. It's natural to be worried about what the next steps may be. Try to stay positive and just take each day at a time until your Dad has seen the Consultant.

It may help to talk things through with one of our nurses. I'm sure they will be able to offer some advice and support whilst you're waiting for more news. If you'd like to chat to them they are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that your Dad has some news soon. Do let us know how he gets on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

im so sorry to hear about your dad but as hard as it, you must  try to stay only positive for him and you. My husband got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer for his 50th in August and straight away we were told it was non operable and not curable but he is having immunotherapy and having just had his first scan we are over the moon that there has been an improvement in his condition. Pls pls don't give up hope, I know only too well how scared and terrifying it is and although every person is different there are people out there who respond well to treatment.

Sending you lots of love xx

  • Thank you for replying means so much and so sorry to hear about your husband. Its such a scary time and everything it taking longer than it should so we won't know everything for sure till another 10-12 days. The doctor has told me They think my daddy is stage 3 or 4 so hearing your story has deffo helped give me a bit of positivity

    Lots of love Ellen xx

  • As strange as it sounds the waiting part that your experiencing now is the worst as you totally feel in limbo, once you know everything and have a plan is does feel very strangely better!! Good luck with everything and it's easy to say but stressing and worrying yourself sick really won't change anything so just try as much as you can to stay positive and stoic!! That's the only way I am getting through each day (that and not looking forwards).

    thinking of you x

  • Thanks so much you have deffo helped me today yesterday was one of the worst days for me. Its been a long 10 days already but suppose he's in the best place now for all the tests. I'm thinking of you all and please keep me posted on your husband I'm hoping for brighter better days ahead of yous. I'm here anytime for a we chat or to vent some frustration.

    Lots of love Ellen xx
