Waiting on results of surgery

Hi everyone.

So I was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 weeks ago after a biopsy on a lump, I had surgery 2 weeks ago today and was told to expect a call in 2 weeks with the results of the lumpectomy and lymph node biopsy.

I've waited all day today and nothing so I phoned the consultants secretary to ask whats going on and she said "oh, you're on the list for the MDT and you should get a call Wednesday but I will check with the lead if thats going to happen for you".

Feeling a bit adrift now like theres no goal to get to in regards to finding out my next steps.  Anyone else had this happen? How long have you had to wait before getting your results?

Thanks x

  • Can anyone relate at all?

I have another day of waiting for a call with the results today and I don't even believe it's going to happen, the secretary sounded so unsure.

I can't cope with just being left not knowing again.

How long is normal to wait for surgery results? Hearing others experiences might help maybe? I don't know why, guess I'm just looking for some reassurance or something.

  • Hi

oh the waiting for results!!!   I think it's possible the worst time - so I really do feel for you.     I luckily had my results exactly two weeks after lumpectomy via my breast cancer nurse and then had telephone consultation with oncologist a couple of days after that to confirm everything.  I remember the torment of being in limbo which nearly drives you insane.

have you tried ringing your Breast cancer nurse?   You should have met her when you were diagnosed.   I was given a breast cancer pack at my diagnosis which included her telephone and mobile number.   She was very good.   Even if she didn't have all the answers at the time of calling was able to at least keep me sane.

i hope you hear soon xx
