Diagnosed with Bowenoid actinic keratosis

I googled it, as you do, it didn't bring up too many red flags.

However, that is not my issue. Family are not engaging or talking or asking how I am. That isn't new, being an ex child in care, no surprise. I just feel sad I haven't got family that understands I might feel anxious, tremendous anxiety actually.

This ruddy growth has bee n growing for over 10 years, fobbed off by gp and nurse in heath centre.

So, no surprise the hospital , after making mistakes, are not engaging either. Can't actually start treatment as still have stitches from biopsy . not until Monday.

Life eh??

  • Hello AngPat

I'm glad to hear that you've finally got a diagnosis. I know that it's taken quite a while to finally be able to put a name to it and I'm hope that you feel some reassurance about things.

I'm sorry to hear that you feel you've not had support from family. I think we've probably got a few members here on the forum who have been in similar circumstances and will know how upsetting that can be.

I wonder if you'd like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses? I'm sure that they will be able to offer you some advice and support about your diagnosis. If you'd like to speak to them they are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope your appointment on Monday goes smoothly.
    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn

    Thank you for your reply

Actually I might need to ring next week once I start the chemo , actually worries after reading about side effects of the cream Efudix. I'm thinking because it is a cream it can't possibly cause any bad side effects.

So in case I feel sick, I want to know if I can take something to help

    Thanks Jenn

  • Hi Angela,

Pleased Ellie is okay. She sounds delightful.  No pets allowed where I live.

Hope you enjoyed your walk. There's a frost today. Absolutely freezing!

My GP would be more than happy with me walking to the hospital. Tell me I need the exercise...

Hospital transport might have risk of COVID. At least mammogram appointment isn't early like my dermatology one. I had to leave before dawn to get to dermatology as it was before 9am. Not sure hospital transport comes that early. I asked if I could have a later appointment as I was walking and all they could offer was 20 minutes later (still before 9am). Urgent 2WW appointments eh... I made it with just 5 minutes to spare which was perfect as they don't let you in any earlier nowadays.

    Take care. Love X

  • Hi sunscared

Blimey. You do have your work cut out re appointments these days. Surely hospital transport are extra careful, and since you have major health issues they'd be more than happy to help? Seems like they want you walking Marathons to your appointments!!

Ellie is OK she's running around as normal, I've been busy catching up with home cleaning, she doesn't flinch an inch when the hoover is on, whereas Saskia, bolts off and doesn't show her face until the hoover is off.

I hope you feel ok in yourself. You said you work, that must be exhausting for you as well as caring for someone at home and yourself, more power to you. Still its nice to hand over the reigns to others, wish I could and I'm sure you can't as you're like myself, too proud to ask, and get grumpy if you can't ask anyway.

It has been a pleasant warmish day here, hopefully tomorrow is the same.

You take care sunscared, let us know how you are soon.

    Love

    X

  • Morning Angela,

So pleased cats are well and sounds like you've been super busy. Hope you have a good day today. It is absolutely freezing here...

Have been told hospitals and GP surgeries are not doing lung function tests. Too risky re COVID. Not sure when/if they will restart. Need a vaccine I guess. So a lot harder to monitor things. Plus I seem to have developed chronic anaemia. Eating red meat virtually every day and gobbling iron tablets is not sufficient. I've got to do a FIT test but don't think it's my bowels. Going to try and put my cancer worries on back burner...

    Birds are singing! Love XX

  • Hi sunscared

Its is really cold now isn't it. I always feel for all animals and birds that live outdoors.

Sorry to hear you might have cronic anemia. That's a *** to have.

I haven't touched red meat in years, personal choice re high inherited cholesterol, runs in family. I do like those new gingster vegan pasties, taste very similar to the meat one.

So if eating red meat and taking iron tablets aren't working, do you usually have a drip infusion thing? B12. Plus are you negative blood group, that doesn't help either.

I expect cancer takes any good out of your body anyway so if that's your case can't your GP prescribe something.

Not liking that cancer patients are more or less left to fight their illness at home with no intervention .

This is a trying time for everyone, lockdown for anorher month. I'd push for your FIT test, why should you feel any worse than you do now. Don't give up. Plus you have a doggie at home? I'm glad of my cats.

Hope you get answers, as long as we ask, they have to answer something.

    Stay warm

    Love

    X

  • Hi Angela,

Hope you're keeping your cats cosy and they've not been affected by all the fireworks.

Couple of things have blown up this end so I might not be on for a few days.

We're not allowed furry friends where I live. Yes, lockdown is going to be hard.

Though I've plenty of visits to GP and hospital to keep me entertained (and scared given the COVID risk).

    Take care. Love X

  • Hi sunscared

    Sorry my mistake, re pets.

I hope you're OK plus who you are caring for too.

  • Hi - only have intermittent computer access (dead computer so having to borrow one - going to try and wait until the New Year for a new purchase given costs often higher in the run-up to Christmas). Hope all well with you. How much longer do you have to apply cream for? Hope it is working out okay for you. Love X

  • Hello sunscared

    Wait for the sales?

Will be applying the cream for another 4 weeks.

    I hope you're OK..

    Love

  • Yes, either for the sales or for prices to go down a bit. Hope you and your cats are keeping well. Sorry that this is a very rushed hello. Hope all is going okay with the cream.

    Take care. Love X

  • Hi there

Strange you should message as I've been quite worried about a new lump on the area where the cream goes.

I will ring one of the nurses tomorrow.

Cats are OK,  Ellie has been very clingy and Saskia sometimes sits and stares at me ,her face is literally inches from mine when she does that. Funny cats.

How is your treatment going, are you coping OK?

    Hope things aren't too horrible

    Bye now

  • Hi Angela,

Cats do have very distinct personalities! Sounds like they really care about you.

Yes do get that lump investigated – sooner rather than later if it's where the cream is going.

I'm waiting on a lot of results. Feeling really tired. Lot of other things going on too. Lungs are functioning a lot better with a different med combination. So that's good news.

Hope the nurses are able to help with regards the lump. Take care. Love X
