Cardiothoracic appointment

Hi everyone

we have just had shock that my 80 year old father in law has been diagnosed with lung cancer. This was about 2 weeks ago as we couldn't go into his appointment he basically told us they are waiting to see if the fluid taken from his lung is clear. Since then we hadn't heard anything till today. He has received one from a hospital about a ten minute phone conversation respiratory clinic. The other letter is from another hospital about a phone appointment with Cardiothoracic department. Nothing else on the letters. Any advice please xx

  • Hello Freda1975

I'm sorry to hear about your father in laws recent diganosis. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned at the moment.

Many hospital departments have moved from face to face appointments to telephone appointments since Covid19 began. Whilst it can be frustrating and difficult for some people, the benefit of having a phone appointment is that a family member will be able to listen in with your Father in law where as he would most likely have to attend a face to face appointment alone which can be incredibly overwhelming.

If you'd like to have a chat with one of our team of nurses for some advice and guidance ahead of these telephone consultations then you're most welcome to give them a ring. I'm sure they will be able to offer you some advice about thte kind of questions you may want to ask. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
