Melanoma - month since diagnosis

I heard a month ago from the GP the mole he shaved off was actually melanoma - PT4b, at least 5 mm thick.  I have since had a PET scan that fortunately was clear and have been referred to a different hospital a week ago.  Given the current circumstances, How quickly would you hear from them, do you think?  I know to expect a wide local excision and possibly a sentinel node biopsy.   Thanks for any insight.

  • Hi,

You should hear from them within the next week or so. You will get an initial appointment with either a dermatologist or the plastic surgeon that will carry out the WLE and then an appointment date for the surgery. They should also offer you a SLNB to be carried out at the same time as the WLE. They should outline the details so that you can make an informed choice as to whether to accept it or not. I suggest that, if you haven't heard from them in a week, contact the hospital to chase it up.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

  • Thanks - that felt about right to me too but I wondered if I was being over anxious.
