I am so sorry to hear what you and your partner must be going through. It is always an additional worry when tests are inconclusive and our treatment is delayed as a result. Unfortunately, consultants have to take their time to get a clear diagnosis before they start any treatment plan.

This is not an unusual situation and it is something that many of us have to bear with until all tests have been carried out. It doesn't always mean bad news.

I sincerely hope that her x-rays and MRI shed some light on the state of play and that things start moving for her soon. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years and had to undergo a number of additional tests before I could start my treatment.

It is difficult to get to grips with the situation and the rollercoaster of emotions is all too familir to most of us. Just give her as much support as you can.

Sometimes patience isn't her strong point and the fact she isn't in control scares her.

She is trying to stay positive, she's a strong woman.

The way your partner is feeling is perfectly normal. None of us are patient when it comes to waiting for results or treatment. Fear of the unknown is a big factor in all of this.

The more positive she can remain the better, but it's not always easy. Itis a scary time and, sometimes partners find it difficult to deal with our constant mood changes - try to be patient.

It will get easier for both of you once treatment begins and she starts to move forward.

It sounds like it is in a different place to mine but a few years ago, I had a fine needle biopsy on a lymph node on my neck that was swollen (after losing weight and having kidney issues etc). I went to receive my results and they were inconclusive. 

I then ended up having an excisional biopsy to remove it so it could be tested but it ended up not being cancerous. 

I just wanted to let you know not to worry at this stage x

Sorry for the delay. No results back yet. She also had a MRI last Wednesday, so hopefully we will know something later this week.

I just feel useless and angry. Now 15 weeks in and no further forward. Very frustrating.

The good news is that it is NOT bone cancer.

She is scheduled for surgery on Monday 16th, lymph node removal and a left side mastectomy.

She will need Radium, they're not sure if she will need chemo as well.

We know there's still a long road ahead, but her fighting spirit is back with a vengeance.

Hi Nichola,

You must both be mightily relieved that it's not bone cancer and, that your partner now has a date for her surgery. Her care team will be waiting to see her pathology results post-surgery before they decide upon exactly what treatment she'll need. Has she been told what type and grade of breast cancer she has, or how far it has spread via her lymph nodes?

I am delighted to hear that your patner's fighting spirit is back with a vengeance. She will need it for what lies ahead. Just remember that we are here for both of you any time. I hope that all goes well on 16th. Don't forget to update us.
