recent diagnosis for DCIS but reconstruction not being done as over 60s not being done due to Covid as we can be more susceptible to catching it...anyone else facing this? I was adamant I didn't want just a mastectomy.
I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis and the unhappy position you seem to be in with regards to reconstruction.
This does seem to be the case in many parts of the country at the moment. Did your consultant discuss doing a reconstruction at a later date? It varies throughout the country, but most seem to think that they will be able to do them again about a year later.
I had a double mastectomy 10 years ago and due to previous non-cancer related surgeries, I couldn't have reconstruction. I have managed well with an assortment of prostheses for different occasions and still live a fairly full life.
