Diagnosed again with Kidney Cancer, told it's stage 4

I have been diagnosed once again with kidney cancer (LH), having had my (RH) removed in 2008 for the same reason, I am currently half way through my first tablet chemotherapy. No medical/clinical person has consentrated on telling me the worse or best scenario, other than it's STAGE 4!!. Of course I can't have surgery so I am solely reliant on medication, are there any others in this "misty no mans land", who can offer any reliable input?, thank you all in advance. I have still got my twisted sense of humour,so don't be too long answering, if you understand!.

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Islander although I'm sorry you've been diagnosed with kidney cancer for a second time.

Hopefully some of our members who are in a similar position will get back to you soon but our cancer nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if you'd like to talk things through with them.

I hope the rest of your chemo goes well and you don't experience too many side effects.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi , my husband was diagnosed last year with stage 4 KC , his tumour is 18cm and inoperable, it has spread to his lungs , pluera and having a scan today as they believe it has now spread to his lymph nodes . He is on immunotherapy by iv every 4 weeks which is slightly kinder than the tki's by tablet . Usually KC is very slow growing and there are new treatments available and loads  being trialled . Kidney cancer UK have a great support group on Facebook full of supportive people with various experiences of KC . The consultants won't give you a best/worst case scenario unless you ask  and only ask if you want to know the answer because they won't sugarcoat it .Good luck
