Costs for going private - skin cancer removal

Hi all

My dad has a localised basal-cell tumour (a type of skin cancer) on his right temple on his head. It will take about 3 months before the NHS can see him to remove it.

Does anyone know how much this kind of surgery would cost in London if he goes private please?

Thanks very much

Elliot

  • My Dad has a similar lesion on his cheek was told the nhs won't remove it, because of the location it would interfere with wearing a mask!!! He lives in West Sussex so he had it removed privately last week cost £1000.

    Hooe the information helps

  • Thanks, that's good to know and glad your dad got it removed in the end. Will try a few London clinics tomorrow and see what I find

  • I paid £1100 in the north west for removal, flap reconstruction and histology. Would've been £700 for excision and no flap but wanted a good cosmetic result as it's on my face.

  • Hi I know this post is from last year but was hoping to find out where you had this done. I live in the northwest and don't know.where to start. It's been over 18 months since my mum 1st went the doctors. She found out she had bcc in a letter. The follow up phone call was very matter of fact, with no time speak, just an underlying message that if it isn't treated quickly there's a potential it could spread. I want to get it sorted ASAP. Where do I go?

  • Good evening Nicola

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. It's understandable that you want to get this resolved for her as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, the forum terms and conditions do not allow members to recommend specific health care providers.

We do have some information about comparing NHS with private cancer treatment but I'd also suggest speaking with your Mum's GP or Consultant for further advice. Alternatively, you can give our team of nurses a call who may be able to give you some information to help you take the next steps. If you'd like to speak to them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you're able to get this sorted soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi

I was wondering whether you would be able to dm me the info also if we connected on here?

Following a biopsy I was referred early May 2021 to Maxillo Facial for removal of BCC on my face.  I've just spoken to the bookings team to try to get a rough idea of when I may receive an appointment.  They've said it probably won't be until 2022 so I'm now trying to find somewhere in the North West where I can pay to have it done.  Not having much luck so far! After doing a little research on BCC removal I think I may need exactly the same treatment that you received. The skin consultant I saw and who phoned me with the biopsy results has unfortunately not been very forthcoming with information however.

    Thanks very much

  • Hi there

please could i ask where you had it removed i am looking to have my mothers removed and if you could recomend the place thank you it would be great help

  • Can you add me too pls for same info, thanks.

  • Hi. I would be really grateful if you could also share the info on the clinic with me, please? I had a BCC removed about 15 years ago at the side of my nose. Waited so long for treatment that it grew quite big and I had to have skin graft. I now have one on the tip of my nose and I am really depressed at the thought of having to wait for so long again. Just because it's in such an obvious place.
    Many thanks
