Dad has been told he’s got 12 months to 5 years to live.

So, I'm looking for advice really, my dad has been undergoing test, at first, they thought it was Skin Cancer, he's now been told it's internal, they don't know how far spread it is yet and it's uncureable with chemo, he would have to go into a 17 days high Intensity programme, to see if this work work but this would leave him ill and very weak. They've given him a life expectancy of 12 months to 5 years. I'm in bits, I can't imagine what he's going through, how do I support him, can he beat this? I've recently had a child and I couldn't imagine life without him. I want to be there for him, does anyone have any idea of how I can be positive for him, when I'm dying on the inside?

  • Hello SaEmJo

Welcome to the forum although I'm really sorry to hear about your Dad's diagnosis. Understandably it's a difficult time for you particularly as you should be enjoying getting to know your new baby.

You might find it helpful to have a look through this section on our website which has lots of information for family and friends of those diagnosed with cancer.
I'd also suggest giving our team of nurses a call. I'm sure that you'd find it useful having a chat with them. They'll be able to give you some information and support. If you'd like to speak with them then they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch SaEmJo and let us know how you're getting on.

    Best wishes,
