Has anyone else been misdiagnosed lung cancer

Hello, few days ago I was told that my relative had lung cancer as they found a mass on the lung and they was aware of it back in Feb and when they did the scan in the week it had grown x amount even gave us measurements and the fact she has 6 little nodules also showing up.

Was told a meeting would be held to discuss plan of action and treatment to then today be told that they got it wrong and it isn't lung cancer? Obviously I'm so happy at the news but also I feel so embarrassed as our family and friends was made aware of. I have notes written down and witnesses of the phone call I had from the hospital from a dr. So I have proof but I can't help but feel so embarrassed and crazy it's messed with my head. I had even been planning last few days final things and was only coming to terms with it to now be told this I am so confussed angry  how someone can say that a person has cancer turns your world upside down then backtrack on it to tell you you don't in fact have cancer.

Has this happened to anyone else?

  • Hello Mummamiaa.88,

It must have been a real shock indeed - what a U-turn but it's great news that they got it wrong and that your relative doesn't have lung cancer. I can understand though why you feel a bit puzzled by it all. You could try and ask them why they made the mistake and whether they could give you an explanation as to why they first told you it was cancer.

I hope that you will hear from others here who have also had this happen to them and that they will share their experience with you. What a relief it must be though to know now for sure that this was a misdiagnosis and that your relative doesn't actually have cancer. I hope that your relative is ok and that the condition is easily treatable.

    Best wishes,
