Scared for mum - diagnosed with oesophageal cancer

My mum, 78 years old has been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer, this has all come about in the last 3 weeks including having a stent fitted last week and being told to build herself up over the next month for some treatment. She has barely eaten anything for weeks and weeks and is wasting away without being to direct. The communication from the health professionals has to date been very poor with my dad having to contact them for any further information in using pain relief etc. They were told yesterday when they rang to find out what was happening next that basically nothing is happening next, it would appear the district nurse and the Macmillan nurses will be in touch at some point. We have gone from anticipating some treatment with a glimmer of hope to nothing but the end. I'm devastated and don't know what to do think or how to comfort my mum or my dad.

  • Hello

i am sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. My husband had the same diagnosis last October. Like your Mum he has lost a lot of weight and can't eat or even drink much. He is supposed to have a stent fitted tomorrow. How was this for your Mum? Is it painful and has it made it easier to eat?

This lockdown has had such a bad effect on treatment and support for cancer patients. My husband has a morphine patch and soluble paracetamol tocontrol his pain.

i hope you get a support plan very soon.
