Biopsy results

Hi all,

just looking for some advice really...

I had a smear test 6 weeks ago approx that came back high severe. Referred for a coloscopy were I was told it was suspected cancer. Massively threw me off guard as I wasn't expecting it. Had the prociedure and following this the doctor sat me down and said I'm really sorry Lisa but from what I can see it looks like cancer.
I was distraught. Spent the next two weeks of my life planning for what I thought was coming by way of diagnosis and treatment. I then received a letter to say I didn't have cancer and due to the discrepency between the smear and histology report my case was going to be discussed further.

i am obviously happy at the result but it has thrown me massively. Can this happen? The doctor seemed adamant. Following her telling me the bad news I was put in a room on my own away from other patients. It was an awful experience.
can you receive a high grade smear and then be told everything is okay? Should I ask for a second opinion? I don't know what to believe.

any advice welcome....
