Breat cancer diagnosis

Hi. I was diagnosed with breast cancer that has spread to my lymph nodes a couple of months ago. I had a single mastectomy and 21 of my lymph nodes removed almost 2 weeks ago. I am now being referred to oncology for chemotherapy and radiotherapy.  I also have rheumatoid arthritis.  I am so scared of the chemo as I have two young children. Anyone out there with similar experience? Xx

  • Hello, me too... diagnosed three months ago, single mastectomy and 21 lymph nodes removed of which 17 were dodgy an now just starting my third chemo session. I also have two little ones and am scheduled for radiotherapy after chemo finishes. Luckily I dont have the added stresses of rheumatoid arthritis. How are you doing? X

  • Just thought I would touch base and ask how you both are doing

what a worry with two little ones too

    sending some positive love

  • Hi. I think it's finally all hit me. Trying to stay strong but not had a great day. I can't bear the numb feeling around the top of my arm, under my arm pit and my chest. Do you have this? On a positive note i'm going for my final drain out tomorrow. How are you doing? How are you finding the chemo? Xx

  • Thank you. I am 2 weeks post op tomorrow. It's the numb feeling I can't stand and I'm having trouble sleeping. I'll get through it. It's just nice having people to talk to who understand. How are you? Xx

  • Agree the numbness is weird, I hate that I can't feel

anything when I spray deodorant... wonder if it even sweats now? So for me chemo so far has been fine, but tired and I lost my hair over three days but It could be way worse so I'm gonna take the wins.  Sorry to hear you are having a tough day/time, I think we all do to be fair.  I got very maudlin at the weekend, played my best friends a song I'd like played at my funeral 'just in case' we ended up In hysterics though as the next song which came up on Spotify was 'another one bites the dust' ... hope you are feeling a little better today xxx

  • Thanks [@pana29]‍ nice of you to respond, thankfully doing pretty good right now but round 3 tomorrow... what stage are you at? X

  • So sorry to hear this that you are going through this. I am also a mum and have a seven year old. I have triple negative breast cancer. I was diagnosed back in February and finally I am scheduled my last chemo tomorrow

it's not easy when you have children to look after and lockdown certainly hasn't helped but I would say take any help that is offered to you as you need to rest as much as possible. I still try to walk or get out once a day  with my son but am looking forward to return to school so that I can rest a little more.

The chemo nurses are lovely and so kind. I tried the cold cap but unfortunately it didn't work for me. I decided to tell my son (7years old) that mummy had to have so medicine and it would make me tired and my hair will fall out. He has got used to the change suprisingly well.
with regards to your numbness I also had this, mine has only just started to get sensation back and I had a lumpectomy back in April.
Hope this offers some help and good luck for your treatment x
