Pre cancerous cells in breast at 23

Hey Everyone ️
this is the first time I've posted something on here before so I'm not sure if people will be able to see this or not yet haha

Ive been diagnosed with pre cancerous cells in my right breast last Tuesday after having the ultrasound, mammogram and biopsy the week before after feeling a lump. I was definitely not expecting all three! It's a bit of a shock to me as no one in my family has ever had breast cancer from what we know, only cancer we have known is stomach cancer which my mum and her mum suffered with.
The consultant said that it's very rare for someone my age to develop pre cancerous cells in the breast and called it DCIS, i have to say I'm quite shocked about it too... I have had an mri scan and I will be needing more biopsy's to rule out if it's cancer/ spread. He's also pushed for me to get the genetic testing done to see if I carry the gene, which I honestly don't mind I'd rather know than forever be thinking in the back of my head "what if". It's all a bit of a waiting game now, but feels so surreal to me. The thing which worried me about if I do have the gene, he said i would have to consider a double mastectomy. I think I zoned out for a bit after he mentioned that, I know I would definitely have it done, no question about it but its that fear of what I'd look like and what my boyfriend would think etc, it's silly really because all they are are bits of tissue and my boyfriend is so supportive about it all  just want to know if anyone else had the same feeling and I'm not being completely ridiculous

I am slightly worried about the size of the lump now after having the first biopsy, it seems to be bigger now and able to see it pushing on the skin if that makes sense haha I'm just wondering if this is normal? If it's just swelling inside?

Thanks to everyone who comments in advance, everyone seems so lovely on here so I feel a ease when I post this

  • Hi Cat,

I've just come across your post and sorry to read about what you're going through at the moment. I just wanted to share my cousins experience with you. She found a lump in her breast a number of years ago, which turned out to be a cyst. However, on her mamogram pre cancerous cells were found in her other breast. She had to have a mastectomy. I was with her through all her appointments. As she was quite slim at the time, the only suitable option given to her was to remove all breast tissue/cells and put in an implant. This was a great success and she was extremly pleased with the outcome. Over time her natural breast did drop and an uplift was offered on NHS to give her breasts an even look. She has never had any further problems and all manograms have remained clear thankfully.

I wish you the best with your decisions ahead
