Family member diagnosed and it’s spread a lot

So a shock hit us about 3 weeks again when a family member went in to hospital as the pain became unbearable, after a week in a couple scans it come back they thought it was pancreatic cancer with spread on the liver.

biopsy revelealed it was pancreatic cancer but with spread on the liver, spleen, lymph nodes and the stomach.

im constantly feeling sick worrying about what it means for them and their life expectancy now, because they're still in a lot of pain they can't start any chemo yet, if they choose it's worthwhile.

just wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences of cancer spread to multiple parts and if you don't mind talking to me about what happened. How was their life? Life expectancy? Did they beat it with that much spread?

thanks.

  • Hello Nothing.nowhere,

I'm sorry to hear about your relative. Their consultant will be the best person to address these questions, but there is some information here on pancreatic cancer and the options available if it has spread. News like this can have an effect on the rest of the family so it's important to look after yourselves in order to give the best support you can.

    I hope this helps,

  • Hi,

you'll probably find, no one wants to answer those questions including the clinicians, through fear of making things worse for you.  There's a process to help drip feed u information.

At least that's what I found, also there's always a chance of a different outcome.

that said, I HATED not knowing and no one responding to posts or questions, so if you are sure you want to know my story, I am happy to share (if you are sure it will help!)

as they say, sometimes ignorance is bliss xxx
