ALL patient want to spend as little time as an inpatient

Hi

I was diagnosed with ALL recently in my late 20s. I didn't have any symptoms except for being pale and a little tired. I was told on that night I couldn't leave hospital due to covid and would need to stay for 5 weeks minimum to start UKALL14. I'm not allowed visitors due to covid either. I have finished my first phase of chemo and have been allowed home but I don't know how long for as they continue to monitor my bloods and wait to do another biopsy. I see my consultant tomorrow and want to explain to them I want to spend as little time as possible as an inpatient. However as I fought hard to come home I'm scared they will get fed up as they want me to be an inpatient again for the next phase but it is unlikely again that I will be allowed to see a visitor. I don't want it to turn into me against them. I know at some point I'm likely to get an infection and will need to go to hospital but I just can't be there when I'm doing so well and I am moniteribg myself very closely for infection as is my family.

Am I being incredibly selfish or annoying my medical team?

Thank you.

  • Hello N112b

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. I think most members here will understand your desire to spend as little time as possible as a hospital in-patient.

How did you get on with your Consultant appointment yesterday? I hope that you were able to explain your points and that the team listened and explained their point of view on things.

I don't think you're being selfish or neccessarily annoying your team but I think that finding a common ground to be able to make your treatment work is important.

Do let us know how you got on.

    Best wishes,
