Colon cancer has spread to the liver

Hi, so ive posted a few times about my dads recent colon cancer, his ct results from thursday were put infront of the MDT monday so today he got the call, its spread to his liver.
so what does this mean?

just when i thought i was coping its another blow to the face xx

  • I’m very very sorry to hear of your Dads diagnosis. Usually when a MDT meet they discuss a plan for a patient. You can try and contact them again to see what this is ? Best of luck x

  • Thank you, and its pretty crap but everyone here is going through it, its just nive being able to talk to people independently. Dads a manly man type no feelimgs (though he does habe them) so you dont get much out of him.

they said we just have to wait for monday so he can speak to the consultants.
am i right in saying if its spread to the liver we are later stages?

this is all so confusing x

  • Yes I’m very very sorry to say it’s Stage 4. Did you post earlier that your Dad isn’t eating and is in pain ? There should be a pain team at the hospital. Awful if he’s been left with no pain relief over the weekend

  • But don’t give up hope ! Hopefully the team will have a plan for him. Is he in good health otherwise? If so they may well start him on chemotherapy to reduce the tumours.

  • Hello Kirsta,

sorry to read the news of your father, he will be devastated.l think you can say it has progressed rather than late stage. It now depends on spread and location in the liver, and if surgery is possible.

There are a growing number of us out there that have had a similar diagnosis and live to tell the tale.

If treatment is possible ,he will be in for one heck of a hard journey to get to the other side, but the other side can be an exceptional place to live

l am six years on from my diagnosis, living life to my full, enjoying and appreciating every day,and count myself as being fortunate to be able to do so.

l hope your dad gets some good news concerning his treatment and things start to look just a little brighter shortly,

                                                                                                         David

  • Hi yea i posted eatlier his struggling to eat. The sad thing is imm like my dad bit of a realistic person but my mum and sisters keep trying to believe something can be done but i knee in my heart weeks ago this wasnt early stages, i guess living with him i see more tjat what he lets on.

im too scared to be even br real with him, through syppirt here i k iw stage 4 is very limited in what they can di do, am i heartless to be realistic about this xx

  • He has copd and can barely eat now due to this, im trying to stay positive for everyone but i can see and feel all is not gonna be ok x p
